Woodward & Company Lawyers LLP is a national boutique law firm that provides legal services to Indigenous communities, governments, and businesses, for transformative change in an era of reconciliation and decolonization. 

Woodward is expanding and seeking a mid to senior level call, for a multi-faceted full-time role in our Victoria office, in BC. With high level integrity, diligence, and analytical thinking our team of lawyers contribute to our firm’s mission with an interpersonal engagement that cultivates positive and meaningful relationships with colleagues, clients, and communities.

If you are a 5-10-year call, and have experience in one or more of the following areas, we invite you to apply: 

  • Governance, Legislation, and Bylaw drafting; 

  • Land management, including housing, commercial development, and leasing on Indigenous lands; 

  • Economic development and impact benefit agreements; 

  • Corporate/commercial, including secured transactions; and, 

  • Trusts, including settlement, business, land, and First Nation community trusts. 

Applicants should also demonstrate the following: 

  • Member in good standing with one or more Canadian law societies 

  • A genuine interest in indigenous legal orders to serve Indigenous interests 

  • Self-motivated and confident with strong organizational and time management skills 

    Experience working in northern community, considered an asset 

  • Excellent technical/legal writing skills 

  • Able to explain complex legal concepts and procedural information across disciplines and cultures 

  • A strong team player able to balance working independently and within interdisciplinary teams including providing mentorship to junior associates 

  • Willingness to travel (post-pandemic) and cultivate relationships with current and future clients 

  • Willingness to engage in cultural and professional events (including public speaking) 

Remuneration: 

  • Salary commensurate with experience and year of call 

  • Immediate enrollment in our Group Benefits Plan (Medical/Vision/Dental/Prescription/Paramedical) 

  • Employer RSP contribution 

  • Employer paid Law Society and CBA fees

  • Continuing Professional Development allowance
