MLT Aikins LLP, Corporate/Commercial
As a member of Treaty 6 and descendant of the Secwepemc, I am humbled and excited to serve as the IBA’s President. The IBA is a growing and dynamic organization dedicated to revitalizing and implementing Indigenous legal traditions, and advancing and protecting the interests of Indigenous peoples in the legal profession. The IBA’s leadership and executive gratefully assumes the responsibility of building upon the foundation set by our current and past members. In this endeavor, we are guided by the wisdom of the most accomplished Indigenous legal minds of our time, many of whom are recipients of the IBA’s Indigenous Peoples’ Counsel designation. We have assembled an impressive group of young, forward-thinking Indigenous legal scholars, practitioners and students to advance reconciliation, implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and put into effect the principles in the United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples. These are exciting and challenging times and I feel privileged to serve the IBA now and in the near future. Kinanaskomitin.
