Director, Mines Investigation
$92,700.24 – $123,200.20 annually
The Mines Investigation Unit (MIU) is part of the Regulatory Management and Enforcement branch and is a specialized unit that investigates alleged breaches of the mining legislation, workplace fatalities, serious injuries, and serious incidents of environmental damage.
The Director, Mines Investigations ensures MIU investigations are adhering to Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation policies and procedures and are meeting provincial consistency standards through regular audits of MIU and other investigative work product. This role is the provincial expert for mining investigations and will provide direct advice to the Chief Inspector of Mines including drafting of new directives to industry to reflect critical learnings from investigations. This position also performs issues management and resolution function on behalf of MIU and may act as media spokes-person as required.
Qualifications for this role include:
- A degree or diploma in Law, Criminology, or a related discipline such as administrative law or enforcement and a minimum of five years of related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience may also be
- Experience in conducting investigations, principles of administrative fairness and relevant regulatory and quasi-criminal case law, and
- Experience in the management of a law enforcement or regulatory investigative team, or
- Experience leading multifaceted, complex quasi-criminal or criminal investigations and taking enforcement action.
- Progressive management and supervisory
- Experience in the administration of business practices/processes of law enforcement or regulatory organizations.
- Experience delivering executive level briefings for information and
- Experience in management of financial resources, projects, and multi-disciplinary professional and technical staff.
- A valid Class 5 C. driver’s license or the ability to immediately obtain one.
