Bill S-6 An Act Respecting the Election and Term of Office of Chiefs and Councillors of Certain First Nations and the Composition of Council of Those First Nations

WHAT: Bill S-6 will amend the rules and regulations respecting First Nations elections under the Indian Act.  The Bill will not affect First Nations that have adopted customary election rules and First Nations governed by the election rules under the Indian Act will have the authority to opt-out of the rules prescribed by the Bill.  

WHO: The Bill is sponsored by the Leader of the Government in the Senate – Marjory Lebreton
